These past two weeks at the farmer's market have given us many beautiful tomatoes. Yummy tomatoes to make soup with, and soup we did, two weekends in a row! We have this really simple tomato soup recipe from our favorite cookbook, "The New Enchanted Broccoli Forest" (thanks again Christine and Paul!) that has never failed to be absolutely amazing. Of course the beauty of the soup is more about the quality of the tomatoes than the recipe. Honestly, what is better than in-season, fresh from the vine, organic and locally grown, hand picked tomatoes that you buy straight from the farmer?

Oh my gosh! The Early Girls from the farmers market this weekend were so sweet. We are loving the Tomato Man this year. They are so beautiful and inspiring. And delicious. Oh, how I love tomato season!
There is one thing better: handpicked tomatoes you grow on your own balcony, with intense dedication to daily watering since we haven't had nearly enough rain this summer! I have a nice bowl-ful and since I'm on my own for meals this week (Mitch is downstate helping my bro with some work), I'm feasting on tomatoes and fresh mozzarella as often as possible! (If you've never tried that, just chop up the tomatoes and cheese, then add some balsamic vinegar, fresh basil and fresh garlic. Mmmm...)
Another food note: it's apple season in Michigan! Since I can't grow my own apple tree right now, I'll rely on u-pick orchards for my fix. I love fall!
